A DISTANT SOIL: The Gathering Chapter 7 Page 7

This page was added to the series long after the other pages were drawn, and I did a lousy job trying to letter it myself. One of these days I am going to have to fix it. Preferably before we do a definitive edition of the series.

Speaking of which, thank you to our kind patron who purchased a graphic novel and filled our coffers with funds!

The lovely people at Image Comics inform me that A Distant Soil Volume IV: Coda is about gone. There are several dozen of the library edition hardcovers left, and very limited quantities of the volume IV softcover left. That’s it of the first printing.

I owe Eric Stephenson, our fine publisher, an apology. I was apoplectic when he ran a higher than normal hardcover run, certain we would not move them all. Well, we did.

Thank you.

We are also running low on A Distant Soil Volume I: The Gathering. We’re going to do some numbers crunching to schedule reprints, which would bring us up to a fifth printing on Volume I.

I’ve seen worse lettering. That smaller type in panel three wold probably look better in its own sub-balloon…

I regret not buying the hardcovers, but I’m comforted by the thought of some sort of super-cool hardcover when the series is over.

Oh, good call on the sub-balloon. That would also be an easy fix!

I am thinking of hiring someone to create a font in my hand lettering style and redo the whole series from the start just to keep it consistent. And then to go through and clean up some of my other hand lettering messes.

It would mean a couple thousand bucks in extra expenses, but it would make me happy.

I held back selling some copies of each edition hard cover. I was so paranoid about screwing up a remarqued edition order, I could not let go of my extras until I was sure I had everyone covered. Well, I have everyone covered.

I will be putting up a few copies of A Distant Soil hardcovers for sale soon.

I just now noticed the Frank Miller poster, too, and I’ve looked at this page 3-4 times already! (And you’d think that I, of ALL people, would have noticed it immediately! Ha!)

    UPDATE 3-7-16

This was re-lettered for the latest edition, so the complaining about the lettering here is complaining about lettering that isn’t there anymore. Digital lettering, redone by Allan Harvey. The original word balloon shapes, precarious as they are, were left as is.
