A Doctor Who tribute fan video musical. It will make your day.
Even though the new doctor is pretty awesome, I am in David Tennant withdrawal.
I suppose it’s totally killing any possible semblance of cool I ever thought I had to admit I always liked that Styx tune.
Ordered all the dvd’s of Torchwood this week. I hear the US version with FOX is off. Buzzkill.
I’ll be buried here for about four months on an intense work jag, and I intend to amuse myself mightily with all the tv series I like, including Lovejoy, Babylon 5, Xena, Hercules, I, Claudius, Millennium, American Gothic, House of Elliot, etc. It’s an entertainment-palooza.

The husband is watching it. I just hurt myself laughing. That’s a wonderful tribute.
Be glad Torchwood US is on the back burner right now. Jack was going to be mutated into a straight man instead of the omnisexual lovekinkmeister he currently is. Without that part of his personality, you might as well just have Col. Hogan.
I don’t know how you felt about Life on Mars… but with that as an example, I would have dreaded Torchwood-USA.
But I do have some exasperation. Oh look! They’ve brought back the Daleks. Again. And next comes River. Hey, what about Jenny, eh? I want Jenny! And Donna was the best EVER! Urgh. No more companions mooning over the Doctor.
Never saw Life on Mars.
Donna was absolutely wonderful.
I actually liked all of the later companions, but she was wonderfully endearing and funny.
With David Tennant as Doctor, I really can’t blame anyone for being all moony when he was around.
I’ve got Doctor Who on my timer to watch tonight.
Since I never really watched Doctor Who until Tennant took on the role, I don’t have a lot of Dalek baggage.
The Daleks are always going to come back. They are the Doctor’s nemeses after all. On average, they’ve appeared once every season or two since 1963. Who without the Daleks would be like Star Trek without the Klingons. Anyway, they’re great!
Also, decades before Torchwood and Life on Mars, there was almost a US Daleks series in 1967, when creator Terry Nation tried his best to get a show off the ground. Scripts were written, studio time was booked, and sets were built before, alas, the whole thing collapsed.
Ah! Babylon 5! I do love that show. I’m working my way through the seasons. My excuse is that it’s “research” for a paper I’m planning for this summer’s Mythcon. (Part of the paper will deal with the whole Shadows versus Vorlons thing.)
My devotion to Tennant is such that I really wanted to hate the new Doctor (Matt Smith), but I found myself really enjoying the first epi of the season (the only one that has been broadcast so far in Canada).
I don’t want a Torchwood remake. To me, Barrowman IS the show, and without him, it’s probably only slightly above average.
Colleen, I hope you include Mad Men, Damages, and True Blood in your entertainment-palooza.
I just got Madmen. Have not seen the others, but Damages was all some folks could talk about at dinner curing C2E2.
And BTW scribbler, I dunno what’s up, but my spam filter keeps trying to eat you. I have to recover each one of your comments. Don’t take it personally if they don’t post immediately.
B5 and Quantum Leap are sequential series, so they’re on my shopping list.
The three series I own:
* The Muppet Show (good stuff, and they include the British segments cut from the US broadcast!)
* Arrested Development (another sequential series, but oh so funny)
* The New Twilight Zone (The 1980s version, with Harlan Ellison, Rockne S. O’Bannon, Stephen King, and some unknown guy named Strazinsky…)
There’s also an unwrapped box of Neverwhere, and the Beeb’s Hitchhiker’s Guide… acquired taste.
The only Dr.Who I own is Adam’s Key of Time segment.
oooOOOOooo the New Twilight Zone was good.
I was able to indulge in some dvd acquisition because I got a loverly gift certificate, but I have to be careful with my budget.
I have dough set aside to work on ADS, and that’s three months of savings I need to protect. I want to be sure I don’t end up having to take last minute gigs I really don’t want to stretch the moolah.
So, I have a small list of movies and tv shows I still want to get, but I think I may just end up upgrading to Adobe Creative Suite 4 with the cash instead. And I need to get some 3-D modeling software and get up-to-date on that skill.
Colleen, re spam filters, I figured as much. It may be that the rotating IP from my WiFi Broadband link freaks it out, since I’m never consistantly “from” the same place.
I hadn’t realized that Rockne S. O’Bannon (Farscape!) had worked on the New Twilight Zone.
3-D modeling! Getting some 3-D landscape modeling software is on my list. I decided I wanted to be able to “see” my fantasy landscapes better than just maps and verbal description. And then I started thinking I could start a consulting business for other fantasy writers who wanted models of their landscapes.
O’Bannon wrote two excellent TZ episodes about language and writing: “Wordplay” starring Robert Klein, and “Personal Demons” starring Rockne S. O’ Bannon.
The entire series comes in two nicely designed boxes. The first season features commentary from Harlan Ellison, directors, and producers. The second box, containing the shorter episodes of Season Two and Three, contains fewer extras, but the stories are just as good!
“I like a Gershwin tune, how about you?”
But first a word from my sponsor… Barnes & Noble frequently offers box sets and DVDs for free, usually 3-4-2. With my employee discount, might you consider barter?
That fanvid got my Monday off to a good start. I love Doctor Who. Wanted to be the Doctor when I grew up in the worst way. Tom Baker was my first Doctor; I’m sporadically knitting a version of the burgundy scarf he wore in season 18. I might’ve spent most of my winter break doing nothing but watching old and new Doctor Who and knitting that thing (only 12 more feet to go… oof).
Life on Mars was brilliant; John Sims was just amazing. I think Netflix has finally got it.
Torsten, you tempt me you…naughty temptor.
VT, I just fond some finger attachments to that hand exerciser thingy I sent you. I will for ward them along.
I am still mailing out donation stuff. Good God.
That sounds so very wrong.
It’s not about them being the Doctor’s main enemy. It’s about: We thought the Daleks were all dead/locked up in the Time War. But whoops, these few escaped whatever happened in the previous Dalek storyline! Insane and with their original DNA messed up for one reason or another… they seek to restore the Dalek race and get back to their holy mission of exterminating everything else!
Of course, the latest Power Rang – er, Rainbow Daleks are purebred from original stock with much heavier armament. And they got away clean, so if they don’t show up until next year’s episodes, that’ll be different.
1st 21st century DW Dalek: fell out of the time war. Insane. Destroyed itself because it was contaminated with Rose’s DNA.
2nd 21st: Daleks: Made by Emperor Dalek which had fallen out of the Time War. Crazed because they were spawned from human samples.
3rd: Cult of Skaro escaped Time War. They were great and sure put the Cybermen in their place. But the sane Daleks didn’t last.
4th: Cult escaped, but it seems their sanity took a knock. They bred human Daleks which, well, led to them having to destroy the corrupted ones which was clever sort of. Poor Sec. From menacing and snarky to pitiable.
5th: Caan got away into the Time War and pulled Davros out but totally lost its grip on sanity. Ended up out to exterminate its own species.
And now: Dalek ship of previous group fell back through time, surviving Daleks had a Progenitor of pure Dalek DNA they couldn’t open because they weren’t pure Dalek. And when new pure Daleks were created, the impure ones were ecstatic to be destroyed by them.
Well, hopefully our next encounter with the Daleks will be with them being dangerous AND STAYING THAT WAY even if defeated rather than becoming this side of pathetic.
Temptor? Moi? Why thank you! But it’s really just me being A Nice Guy?. Just trying to help keep you sane.
(And if I really wanted to tempt you, I’d use my 50% B&N cafè discount… Starbuck’s…Cheesecake Factory… Godiva…)
