Oh gosh, the suspense! I really wasn’t expecting that from Seren… If D’mer spares her life, she’ll be in his debt won’t she?
Of course, this could always turn into a Valjean/Javert moment where the spared feels more bitter and angry at the merciful than if he had gone through with killing or maiming her. It also could turn out with them becoming allies. I’m not holding my breath for either.
I know too much. But aside from that, really Seren asks for it. He feels contempt for those people who serve his household because they’re programmed to love him. So he does ignore them.
I don’t think D’mer has any mercy in him, and I’m rather shocked at Seren’s attitude. I’m betting that the Ovanan Times will have an entry in the ‘help wanted’ section tomorrow.
I think Seren is able to compartmentalize like a champ.
Jeff Smith (creator of Bone) absolutely HATES Seren. It’s funny, he sputters when he talks about him.
I can sort of understand Jeff’s dislike of Seren. Seren is weak where you want him to be stronger (like in his “love” relationships) and strong where you’d like to see a bit more softness and mercy (like this moment).
Since I “know more” … I really want you to get back to the story, because I am curious about how the characters go forward from “when last seen”.
“I think Seren is able to compartmentalize like a champ.”
I nominate this quote for understatement of the century. lol
SCOOOORRRRRCH
Really, Seren. That IS cruel. He does have more baggage than American Tourister regarding feeling manipulated, but really. Giving D’Mer power over Jorvana– with the implicit understanding that Seren expects D’Mer to kill her– mm, mmm. Unwise. Bad for D’Mer. Vicious to Jorvana. She isn’t Niniri, she just plays her in this mini drama.
Minininiri. Swell, I’m gonna go around humming that to myself for the rest of the day. Red leather, yellow leather.
That said, I would have felt more pity for Jorvana if she had not been able to meet Seren’s eyes while essentially admitting she’d not have minded killing Liana. Liana’s a child. Down you go, ho.
Still if Seren had learned anything from having been made into everybody’s finger puppet all his life, he’d have made Bast do it.
But Carla, I don’t think he knows that Bast was “courting” Jorvana. Only that Jorvana pretty much approves of Bast. After all, he’d scanned Bast before they got back to the ship.
