I’ve received a few very kind letters from you guys asking if I would be part of the lineup of creators for the upcoming DC relaunch.
Well, no. It’s not sexism, or any other -ism, except Colleen is busy-ism. No one asked if I’d participate, but I’m sure everyone knows I am working (still) on two original GN’s for Vertigo, and am behind schedule on both. There is no way I could accept new work right now. That includes charity work, which has been getting thrown under the bus lately. Charity begins at home.
When you have work lined up, and one thing falls behind, the domino effect is hard to stop. And the dominos fell. Here I am picking them up. I am deliriously happy with the work I am doing, and the advance buzz on Mangaman is outstanding. I can’t wait for people to see Gone to Amerikay and Stealth Tribes. That new painted graphic novel for Dark Horse is dandy. I have plenty to do.
I still do the occasional public service speaking for creator rights, but between now and November, I am going to keep a low profile and get my books and commissions completed. I’ll stick to the exercise program, too, by golly.
Jim Valentino kindly sent me his stash of Legion of Superheroes comics. I humbly submit that I would love another crack at it.*
But not this year.
*I could do next year’s Legion Annual, I’m thinking. Still a Legion fan after all these years.
