Legendary comic artist Nick Cardy, co-creator of The Teen Titans, did this wonderful pencil drawing of Bast for a collection of A DISTANT SOIL pinups, and you can imagine how excited I was! Not only was he one of my favorite artists growing up, he was one of the kindest, most gentlemanly men in comics. It is a highlight of my career to have had him as a friend. In 1996, Image Comics published a book of A DISTANT SOIL pinups by some of my favorites artists. Among them, this beautiful pinup of LORD RAVEN in pen and ink by the wonderful Walt Simonson! This gorgeous painting is by animator/illustrator Jozef Szekeres, who designed the Australian Olympics mascot. He is also well known for his work at Disney Animation. And he designs beautiful dolls! In 1996, Image Comics published a book of pinups based on A DISTANT SOIL, and this was Jozef’s contribution. It’s so gorgeous! Jozef is very fond of mermaids, and they appear in a lot of his works. The original to this watercolor art is long gone, and the art had to be restored from a copy. I did some digital tweaking as well. I’ve had to do this on a number of cover pieces, and I really have to resist the impulse to just redo the art from scratch.

Like most of my early digital portraits, because I am a complete doofus, I did not save the files properly, and only have low res copies of all of these multimedia works. You can imagine how frustrating that is. I am not sure why I did this, if I just accidentally overwrote the files at some point. God knows.
